Every July, we celebrate the birth of the greatest experiment in self-government the world has ever known. We wave the American flag, gather with family and friends, watch fireworks light up the night sky, and remember the sacrifices made by generations who fought to preserve our freedom.
But this year, I found myself reflecting on something deeper.
The Declaration of Independence doesn't begin with wealth, success, or comfort.
It begins with three timeless ideals:
Life.
Liberty.
The Pursuit of Happiness.
While these words were written as political principles, I believe they also serve as a powerful blueprint for how we should steward our health.
Life
The Founding Fathers understood something profound.
Without life, nothing else matters.
For more than a century, chiropractors have shared a simple but powerful mission:
Adding years to life... and life to years.
Living longer isn't enough if those extra years are filled with pain, fatigue, chronic disease, and limitations.
True life is far more than simply being alive.
It's vitality.
It's waking each morning with energy and purpose.
It's thinking clearly.
Moving freely.
Serving your family.
Playing with your grandchildren.
Pursuing the calling God has placed on your life.
At The Source, that's what we're after.
Not simply extending your lifespan.
But expanding your healthspan—the number of years you live with strength, vitality, resilience, and purpose.
Because when your health improves...Your life expands.
Liberty
America gave us political freedom.
Yet millions of Americans remain imprisoned every day.
Not behind prison walls...But inside unhealthy bodies.
Bound by chronic pain.
Inflammation.
Obesity.
Diabetes.
Brain fog.
Fatigue.
Poor sleep.
Anxiety.
Dependence on medications that often manage symptoms without addressing the underlying causes.
Health creates options.
Disease removes them.
The healthier you become, the more freedom you have to live the life you were created for.
Freedom to travel.
Freedom to hike.
Freedom to play with your grandchildren.
Freedom to work.
Freedom to worship.
Freedom to serve others.
The American Dream isn't simply about having opportunities.
It's about possessing the health to pursue them.
The Pursuit of Happiness Begins with Stewardship
Perhaps the most misunderstood phrase in the Declaration of Independence is "the pursuit of happiness."
Notice what the Founders did not promise.
They never guaranteed happiness.
They protected our freedom to pursue it.
The Bible reveals another foundational truth.
We are created in the image and likeness of God and are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Our bodies were designed with remarkable intelligence.
Every heartbeat.
Every breath.
Every cell.
Every healing response.
Every adaptation.
None of it is accidental.
The human body is one of God's greatest masterpieces.
But even masterpieces require stewardship.
Our bodies were designed for health.
Our responsibility is to create the conditions that allow that health to be fully expressed.
That means nourishing our bodies with real food.
Moving consistently.
Sleeping deeply.
Managing stress.
Caring for our nervous system.
Reducing unnecessary toxic burdens.
Building healthy relationships.
Living with gratitude and purpose.
We're not trying to manufacture health.
We're removing the interference that keeps the body's God-given design from functioning as it was created.
That is stewardship.
And stewardship is one of the highest forms of gratitude.
The American Dream Starts with Health
Somewhere along the way, we've confused comfort with freedom.
We've made life easier than ever.
Yet we're more inflamed.
More overweight.
More anxious.
More medicated.
More exhausted.
More disconnected.
Comfort isn't the American Dream.
Capability is.
The ability to do what God has called you to do.
To lead your family.
To build your business.
To serve your community.
To enjoy the blessings you've been given.
Health isn't the destination.
It's the vehicle that allows you to pursue everything else.
Stewarding the Gift
As a Christian, I recognize that our bodies are purposely and intelligently designed
They are gifts.
As Americans, we recognize that our freedoms were purchased through tremendous sacrifice.
Both deserve our stewardship.
One generation secured our political freedom.
Every generation must choose whether it will steward its physical freedom.
Every healthy meal.
Every workout.
Every walk.
Every chiropractic adjustment.
Every night of restorative sleep.
Every decision to nourish rather than neglect your body.
They're all investments in your future.
Small daily choices compound into a lifetime of freedom.
The Source Perspective
At The Source, we believe health isn't something you chase.
It's something you uncover.
The body was designed with incredible wisdom.
Our job isn't to fight against it.
Our job is to remove the interference that prevents it from functioning the way God intended.
Because when your health improves...Your options expand.
Your purpose becomes clearer.
Your energy increases.
Your relationships deepen.
Your service grows.
Your life becomes richer.
Final Thoughts
Perhaps the American Dream isn't simply owning a home, building wealth, or retiring comfortably.
Perhaps it's having the health to enjoy the blessings God has entrusted to you.
To live fully.
To serve freely.
To love deeply.
To leave a legacy faithfully.
The Declaration of Independence gave us three timeless ideals.
Life.
Liberty.
The Pursuit of Happiness.
At The Source, we believe those same principles provide a blueprint for health stewardship. Because freedom was secured by the sacrifices of those who came before us.
Health is preserved by the choices we make today.
Steward both well.
Until next time,
Dr. Gary
